Piment de la Bresse (Rouge de la Bresse / Piment de la Bresse) is a traditional French variety of hot pepper, Capsicum annuum , widely grown in the Bourg-en-Bresse region, northeast of Lyon . The compact plants produce early-ripening, red, slightly pointed fruits measuring about 7 × 2 cm . With a moderate spiciness of 2,500–5,000 SHU , the variety is excellent for fresh use, cooking, and especially drying.

Piment de la Bresse is an interesting French variety that combines early ripening, compact growth and moderate pungency . The fruits are elongated, slightly tapering towards the tip and reach approximately 7 cm in length.

They are particularly suitable for drying , and in France they are also used to add a spicy character to cheeses. Thanks to the moderate 2,500–5,000 SHU, the peppers add a pleasant spiciness without dominating the other flavors.
